Maths
At Tenterden Junior School there is an emphasis and drive to involve talk for learning amongst adults and pupils to enhance and develop rich understanding of vocabulary and concepts. Fluency, reasoning and problem solving are all integral to aim of the pupils becoming outstanding mathematicians. The use of manipulatives to support concrete learning is a strength and all children are encouraged to use available resources to build their deep conceptual understanding.
The school links with the Local Authority Improvement Partner in our drive towards outstanding practice and the subject review (Jan 2018) carried out highlighted great strengths across the whole school with solidly good and much outstanding teaching and learning observed.
The school follows, as agreed by the Tenterden Rural Alliance, the White Rose Maths Hub planning (below) which emphasises the importance of the three elements of Fluency, Reasoning and Problem Solving.
